Mahaffie Wild West Show September 25 and 26
Enjoy daily arena shows, live entertainment and children’s games at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop’s annual Wild West Show September 25 and 26.  This popular annual event offers visitors a variety of hand-on experiences and live entertainment to provide a taste of life in Kansas during the old west.

The Wild West Show will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, September 25 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 26 at the Olathe historic site, 1200 Kansas City Rd.  Regular daily admission applies; $6 for adults, $4 for kids age 5-11 and kids age 4 and under get in free.  Food will be available for purchase.

Stagecoach rides will be provided at no charge courtesy of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau.  New this year, on-going entertainment will be presented in view of the stagecoach area including stagecoach robberies, re-enactments, live music, and mechanical bull rides will be offered to bull riders as young as age 4. Cost is $5/bull ride or two rides for $7. Mechanical bull rides will be offered courtesy of a Whole Lotta Bull.

The arena show highlight is the return of Jerry and Staci Diaz with their dynamic family horse show featuring trick roping and all new acts.  Live music will be performed by local band Three Trails West.  Mutton busting (competitive sheep riding) will be available for children weighing less than 50 pounds will be held both days.  Registration at the Heritage Center the morning of the event is required.

The weekend event will also feature a shooting gallery, gold panning for real gold, live entertainment and more!  A chuckwagon cook-off will be held Saturday only, with limited samples and voting opportunities.  Some games and activities have an additional fee. 

Free event parking with a shuttle to Mahaffie will be available at nearby Olathe North High School. Handicapped accessible parking will be available at Mahaffie.

1:00:     Mutton Busting – Sheep-riding competition open to children who weigh less than 50 pounds.  Register each day in the Heritage Center.  Sponsored by Prairie Moon 4-H.

2:00:     Jerry and Staci Diaz – performing a dynamic horse show and trick roping

Throughout the Day: Chris Camp the Whip Guy and Cowboy Poet Casey Allen

 

Sunday, September 26

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site is operated by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olathe. Open hours, stagecoach operations, living history activities, special events and programs vary seasonally.  Access is limited in the winter months and the site is closed major holidays.
