Playing on the Prairie will be 10am to 4pm Saturday May 4 at Mahaffie. FREE admission! (stagecoach rides are $2/person ages 3 and up). This event is held in cooperation with the Olathe Junior Service League and will offer a free book for every child as they combine their annual kick-off of summer reading with this event. Lots of activities for the whole family will be available and may include:
Visiting animals, a new lamb born April 8 at Mahaffie will make her debut. Other animals may include alpacas and shearing at 12:00pm, 2:00pm, & 3:00pm
Vendors will have handmade fiber crafts for sale and will be providing fiber demonstrations such as spinning, weaving, and other fiber crafts in the white tent
Storytelling at: 11:30am, 1:30pm, & 2:30pm in front of the stagecoach line
Leather braiding & Leather stamping
Rain sticks, clothesping dolls, feathers in hair, a Trading Post and planting a sunflower seed
Exploring modern farm equipment (tractors) sponsored by New Holland Tractor of Olathe
19th Century games, laundry, breadmaking and butter churning in the cellar of the Mahaffie farmhouse & blacksmith demonstrations
Activities will go on rain or shine so please wear boots as the grounds may be muddy from recent rains
Kettle Korn and other food items will be available for purchase
