2017 Nancy Quinlisk Chandler Volunteer Award Winners Announced

Post Date:11/13/2017

Olathe Public Library volunteers Carlotta Belcher and Jackie Holst were honored with the Nancy Quinlisk Chandler Volunteer Award at the annual volunteer recognition reception on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Olathe Community Center.

Carlotta Belcher began volunteering with the Olathe Public Library in the 1970s as a member of the Olathe Junior Service League, and continued reading stories and playing the piano for children’s sing-alongs for years to come. She later served as president, secretary and membership chair of the Olathe Public Library Friends Board. Carlotta has volunteered more than 1,800 library hours.

Jackie Holst is a junior at Olathe East who started volunteering at the Downtown Library’s Meet & Eat Lunch Program in 2015. Thanks in part to Jackie’s volunteer efforts, this successful program has expanded to include both library locations. The program also serves after-school meals and offers homework help during the school year. As one library staff member said, “She understands the value of helping others and enjoys dedicating her time and work ethic to good causes.” Jackie has volunteered more than 230 library hours.
