Public invited to see designs of new county courthouse Feb. 6 & 7
Early concepts for the new Johnson County courthouse will be shared with the public next week during two public engagement sessions where residents will have a chance to ask questions and provide feedback on the project. The meetings are open to anyone interested in the project developments on the courthouse scheduled to open in the spring of 2021.
The first public engagement meeting will be held Feb. 6 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the County Administration building at 111 S. Cherry St. and a second offering will be Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Arts & Heritage Center located at 8788 Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park.
Since voters approved the public safety sales tax funding for the courthouse in Nov. 2016, county staff and a number of design build staff led by JE Dunn Construction have been busy developing more detailed plans, addressing parking needs and working with the City of Olathe to integrate the design into the current downtown landscape. Site clearing and demolition began in the fall of 2017 and is ongoing.
Ongoing updates will be available online throughout the duration of the construction project. To submit comments or questions about the new courthouse designs and other aspects of the project, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 913-715-5000.
