Mahaffie Summer Season Promotes Family Fun

The summer season officially begins at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm, 1200 Kansas City Rd., on Wednesday, May 24.

Enjoy living history activities and stagecoach rides from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.  Beyond regular hours, Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm offers many special events and activities throughout the summer.


Summer Camps

Mahaffie offers a variety of summer camps for kids ages 7 – 12, featuring hands-on 1860s living history activities. Dates and themes include:
  • Rootin’ Tootin’ Cowboy Camp – June 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sod Busting & Chicken Feeding: Farming 1860s Style – June 12-16, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Eating Goober Peas: Civil War Boot Camp – July 10-14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Can We Build It? Construction 1860s Style – July 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m 

One-day camps cost $30. Full-week camp is $70. Registration is required and due the Friday before camp begins.


Family Fun Nights

Mahaffie will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. each Thursday night in June and July. Each week, visitors will enjoy a variety of activities focusing around different historic themes.

This summer’s themes are:
  • Civil War – June 1, June 9 and July 13
  • Kansas Cowboys - June 8
  • Farm to Table – June 15
  • Mad Scientists 1860s Style – June 22
  • Independence Day – June 29
  • Hit the Trail!  – July 6
  • Kansas Wheat Harvest or J.B. the Builder Hit the Trail! July 20 or July 27 (depending on crop readiness)


19th Century Fireworks and Olathe Civic Band Concert

Join Mahaffie on Thursday, June 29 at 6 p.m. for a night of classic patriotic fun! Kick-off your night by experiencing 1860s living history, then stay for the Patriotic Parade at 7 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to decorate their bicycles, wagons or strollers to show their spirit for the parade. After the parade, enjoy a concert performance by the Olathe Civic Band, and music from the Gum Springs Serenaders.

The night ends with a 19th century ground-based fireworks show. Bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic dinner to enjoy this patriotic celebration. The fireworks show will begin at dark.

Admission is free. Special activities, like stagecoach rides, are $3/person.


Day Out with Frank and Ella

Each Wednesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in June and July, participants will enjoy a different theme with hands-on activities, crafts and stagecoach rides (paying youth only). Children and adults of all ages are invited to attend these summer fun sessions.
