Crews treating roads for freezing rain, sleet, and snow

Post Date:02/06/2019 8:46 PM

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m., Feb. 7: Crews worked overnight and will continue working through the day plowing and treating streets. Roads throughout Olathe are covered with ice, creating hazardous driving conditions. Please use extreme caution if you must head out.

With freezing rain, sleet, and snow expected overnight and into Thursday, City of Olathe crews are working hard to treat roads throughout the city.

As of 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, all Olathe roads have been treated at least twice with rock salt.

The freezing rain is expected to intensify overnight as temperatures continue to drop. Crews will work to prevent icing over as much as possible; however, ice accumulations may lead to hazardous travel for the Thursday morning commute.

Expected northwest winds during the day on Thursday could bring down ice-covered tree branches, causing further road hazards for crews and commuters.

Please try to remain off the roads as much as possible due to slick conditions. Drive with extreme caution if you must be on the roads.

Visit OlatheKS.org/Snow for more information about ice and snow treatments.
