Olathe wins media recognition award for “Rock the Block” event
The City of Olathe received a “media recognition” award from the Kansas Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (KS-NAHRO) for the “Rock the Block” event, hosted in coordination with Habitat for Humanity in fall 2018.
KS-NAHRO only presents one media recognition award each year at their annual conference. The positive media attention and exposure Olathe received from the “Rock the Block” event showcased the City’s commitment to public service and affordable housing and assistance programs.
The first "Rock the Block" event of its kind in the state of Kansas, the project targeted 12 homes in a specific neighborhood for repairs and updates in landscaping and exterior appearance. Hundreds of volunteers from the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors, the City of Olathe, and Habitat for Humanity KC came to “Rock the Block” and help with the projects.Olathe is proud of the multiple City departments and hundreds of volunteers that helped make this event a reality and looks forward to future neighborhood initiatives through the Olathe Healthy Neighborhoods Program.
