E. Santa Fe St. construction closure

Post Date:07/01/2020 4:10 PM

Friday, July 3:

WEST PORTION OF CLOSURE
New sanitary sewer lines have been installed along Santa Fe St. Crews are now finalizing the installation of new manholes and ensuring connections are made to the new sanitary sewer main.

Curb replacements and street patching will begin next week along the south edge of Santa Fe St. This work requires several days of processing to ensure materials can handle traffic.

Weather dependent, Santa Fe St., from Kansas City Rd. to Church St., is expected to reopen in late July.

EAST PORTION OF CLOSURE
New sanitary sewer mains have been installed in this portion of the closure. Service connections will wrap up early next week, while water lines will be complete by the end of the week. Work on the storm sewer lines will then begin.

All four bases for new traffic signal poles have been poured at the intersection of Santa Fe St. and Ridgeview Rd. Evergy has also removed a base on the southwest corner, which will allow electricians to begin underground connections.

Each week, updates on the construction and detour routes will be published at OlatheKS.org/SantaFeConstruction. Updates will also be sent via NotifyJoCo to residents and businesses in the impacted area. Visit NotifyJoCo.org to create an account and receive those notifications.

Thank you for your patience as the City works as quickly as possible to complete this critical project.

Once sanitary sewer connections are complete, street patching will begin. That work will last one week and is tentatively scheduled to begin next week. Crews will patch the area with concrete, which requires several days to process to ensure materials can handle traffic.

Santa Fe St., from State St. to Church St., as well as side streets, are tentatively scheduled to reopen by mid-July.

EAST PORTION OF CLOSURE
Waterline installations are complete between Ridgeview Rd. and Emma St. Crews will now work to relocate the waterline on the south side of Santa Fe St. at Ridgeview Rd.

Work continues on the sanitary sewer line that runs south from Ridgeview Rd. and through the southwest corner parking lot. Service lines are also being connected to the new main that runs along Santa Fe St., between Ridgeview Rd. and Fir St.

Two bases for new traffic signals at the intersection of Santa Fe St. and Ridgeview Rd. have been poured. The final two will be complete next week.

Thursday, June 18:

WEST PORTION OF CLOSURE: Approximately 1,500 feet of sanitary sewer lines have been placed under the eastbound lanes of Santa Fe St., from State St. to Mahaffie St. Seven new manholes have also been installed. The remaining lines are expected to be installed by the end of this week. Next week, crews will connect service lines to the new sanitary sewer main.

Once this work is complete, the south lane of Santa Fe St. will receive new curbs and asphalt.

Santa Fe St., from State St. to Church St., is tentatively scheduled to reopen to four lanes of traffic, as well as access to side roads, by early July.

EAST PORTION OF CLOSURE:
Approximately 500 feet of new waterlines have been installed along Santa Fe St., from Ridgeview Rd. to near Emma St.

Eleven manholes, as well as 1,200 feet of sanitary sewer lines have been installed under Santa Fe St., from Ridgeview Rd. to Fir St. Crews are also installing additional sanitary and storm sewer lines as well as connecting service lines to the new sanitary sewer main at the Santa Fe. St. and Ridgeview Rd. intersection.

Traffic signals have been removed at the Ridgeview St. intersection. Foundations are being installed for new traffic signals.

Starting next week, crews will begin relocating waterlines that run along Santa Fe St., from Ridgeview St. to Chester St.

Friday, June 12: The City of Olathe knows the Santa Fe St. construction is having an impact on businesses and residents in the area and regrets the inconvenience it is causing; however, this project is essential to addressing one of Olathe’s most congested intersections. Once completed, residents and businesses will see significant improvements in traffic flow.

Beginning June 1, 2020, E. Santa Fe St. between N. Rawhide and N. Emma St. will be closed to traffic through September, 2020, weather dependent. Detours will be provided. N. Ridgeview Rd. will remain open to northbound and southbound traffic.

While the City regrets the inconvenience the closure will cause, it is an important step to make a significant improvement in Olathe traffic flow.

New water lines, a sanitary sewer and storm sewer, and geometric improvements along Santa Fe including a new traffic signal at the intersection will all be complete during this full closure.

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the closure.

Visit the construction project page for more information on the project.
