Olathe Public Library Programming

Please visit the events calendar for an updated list of programs. Questions can be directed to 913-971-6874 for children's programming or 913-971-6888 for adult and teen programming. The Olathe Indian Creek Library (13511 S. Mur-Len Rd., Suite 129) and the Olathe Downtown Library (201 E. Park St.) are open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. Please note that some of the teen programs are located at Teen Commons (16160 W. 135th St.).

  • Meet & Eat Afterschool each Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Library, and Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Children ages 18 and under are invited to stop by the library for free afterschool meals courtesy of Harvesters. All meals must be eaten on site and are only available for children. This event is sponsored by Harvesters Community Food Network and Friends of the Library.
  • Sewing Studio: Pin Cushion Project on Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Learn how to make a pincushion with materials provided by the library. Attendees must know sewing machine basics. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6888.
  • Computer Help Lab on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Get help with Microsoft software, the Internet, email, eBooks, and more. Staff will be available and provide online training materials that can be accessed from home. Registration is not required.
  • Magic the Gathering Club on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Teen Commons (16160 W. 135th St.). Teens in grades 6 through 12 will play the popular card game. A deck of cards will be provided, or each participant may bring their own. All playing levels are welcome. Registration is not required.
  • SNAP Food Assistance Application Help on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Get help completing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application with an advocate from Kansas Appleseed. One-on-one appointments may be scheduled by contacting Joey Hentzler at 785-764-8230 or jhentzler@kansasappleseed.org. Walk-ins may be accepted. Please review the list of documents you may need to complete your application before arrival.
  • New to Medicare: Enrollment & Benefits on Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Representatives from SHICK (Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas) will walk you through Medicare enrollment, health and prescription benefits, plan options and using Medicare with your work or retiree insurance. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6888. 
  • Tabletop Game Night on Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Teens in grades 6 through 12 may bring their own games or those provided by the library. Registration is not required. 
  • Raising a Reader - 6 by 6 Early Literacy Skills on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Educational toys, puzzles, and books will help increase your children's "pre-reading" skills. The program is for children ages five and younger. Registration is not required. 
  • Junior Makers: Board Games on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Each month, children in grades 1 through 5 will receive a different project.  This month’s theme is “Board Games. Register on  theevents calendar or by calling 913-971-6874.

  • Community Volunteer Fair on Friday, Feb. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Drop by and visit with local organizations and receive information in order to match your interests and talents to a volunteer opportunity. Contact aparks@olatheks.org for more information.
  • Preschool Dance Party on Friday, Feb. 2, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Downtown Library. Come shake, shimmy, and dance up a storm at our preschool dance party, featuring favorite songs from the library's music collection. Tickets will be handed out on a first come, first served basis starting 30 minutes before the program begins. Registration is not required. 
  • R.E.A.D. to a Dog Program on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Readers of all ages can read to a trained therapy dogs provided by Pets for Life, Inc. Upon arrival, check in at Children's Services for a reading time. Reading sessions are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Registration is not required.
