Olathe Public Library Programming

Please visit the events calendar for an updated list of programs. Questions can be directed to 913-971-6874 for children's programming or 913-971-6888 for adult and teen programming. The Olathe Indian Creek Library (13511 S. Mur-Len Rd., Suite 129) and the Olathe Downtown Library (201 E. Park St.) are open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. Please note that some of the teen programs are located at Teen Commons (16160 W. 135th St.).

  • Minecraft & Gaming for Teens on Tuesday, April 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library.  All teens in grades 6 to 12 are invited to play Minecraft and other video games or try virtual reality. Registration is not required.
  • Book Munch For Lunch on Wednesday, April 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sunflower Cafe on the lower level of the County Administration Building (111 S. Cherry St.). Join the group to discuss your favorite book. Food and drink are available for purchase, or guests may bring their own lunch. Registration is not required.

  • Hand Embroidery Workshop on Wednesday, April 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Receive one-on-one guided instruction from embroidery instructors. Prepared embroidery patterns, stitching supplies, and a full thread bar will be provided. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6888.

  • Afterschool LEGO Club on Wednesday, April 18, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library.  Participants in grades K to 5 will receive a different theme or special challenge each month to inspire LEGO creations. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6874.

  • Computer Lab on Thursday, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Get help with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, etc.), internet browsers, email, eBooks, and more. Staff will be available and introduce you to online training materials that can be accessed from home. Registration is not required.

  • Teen Anime Club on Thursday, April 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teen Commons (16160 W 135th St.). Meet with other teens in grades 6 to 12 to share manga drawings, watch and discuss anime, and learn about Japanese culture. Refreshments will be served. Registration is not required.

  • Family History on Friday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Research your family tree with the help of the library’s databases (including Ancestry.com) and Kansas Room genealogy books. Beginning and advanced genealogists are welcome. Librarians and volunteers will be available to help. Registration is not required.

  • Unbirthday Party on Saturday, April 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Downtown Library. A very merry unbirthday to you! Come celebrate everyone's and no one's birthday with fun activities and games for the whole family. Registration is not required.

  • Bonding with Board Games on Saturday, April 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Denise Dias from the K-State Extension Office will explain how to play Euro-style board games that emphasize strategy. Registration is not required

  • Health Information and Referral Clinic on Monday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Downtown Library. The Olathe Fire Department’s Mobile Integrated Health team brings their nurse practitioner and firefighter-paramedics to diagnose and treat basic illnesses, prescribe medications and recommend follow-up care. Patients who need more in-depth services will be referred to the Health Care Partnership Clinic in Olathe, which offers free and reduced price medical care. Blood pressure checks and safety information are also available. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required.

  • New to Medicare: Enrollment & Benefits on Tuesday, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Library or Thursday, April 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library.  Representatives from SHICK (Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas) will walk you through Medicare enrollment, health and prescription benefits, plan options and using Medicare with your work or retiree insurance.   • Homeschool Program: LEGO Free Build on Wednesday, April 25, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Library. Homeschoolers in grades K to 5 will receive a theme or challenge and create with the library’s LEGO collection. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6874.

  • Junior Makers:  Maker Mash-up on Wednesday, April 25, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Children in grades 1 to 5 can explore and create with the library's LEGO collection. Register on the events calendar or by calling 913-971-6874.

  • Magic the Gathering Club on Thursday, April 26, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Teen Commons (16160 W 135th St.). Teens in grades 6 to 12 will play this popular card game. A deck of cards will be provided, or each participant may bring their own. All playing levels are welcome. Registration is not required.

  • SNAP Food Assistance Application Help on Saturday, April 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Get help completing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application with an advocate from Kansas Appleseed. One-on-one appointments may be scheduled by contacting Joey Hentzler at 785-764-8230 or jhentzler@kansasappleseed.org. Walk-ins may be accepted. Please review the list of documents you may need to complete your application before arrival.
