Planning for Olathe's future is underway with an update to the City's Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is the official statement of the City setting forth the goals and vision for future growth and development, and directly or indirectly affects residents' transportation, parks and green spaces, housing choices, community economic issues, and other areas.
Steve Menke Named Olathe Police Chief
Olathe Police Department veteran Steve Menke has been named Olathe's Police Chief replacing Janet Thiessen who resigned the position earlier this month.

The Crime Analyst provides support to all administrative and operational units in the department through the dissemination of pertinent crime and intelligence data. The duties of the Crime Analyst include analyzing and summarizing data to provide pertinent information regarding crime patterns, trend correlation and related suspect data.
Crime Analysts play a critical part in identifying and apprehending criminals, establishing criminal patterns and helping protect the community through intelligence gathering and sharing.

Late August and early September's cool and wet weather is impacting two Olathe street projects' completions; one in the 119th and Strang Line area and the other on Santa Fe from Kansas City Road to Church Street.
Both projects include a "mill and overlay" that removes the worn top layer of asphalt and replacing it with a new coat. Mill and overlay projects are critical to preserving street life and to helping avoid more costly and inconvenient street reconstruction projects.
