The City of Olathe's annual 4th of July Fireworks Display is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th at the Great Mall of the Great Plains.  The display is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.   See City Events for more information.

Kids Fishing Derby Saturday, June 13

The 28th Annual Kids Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday June 13th at Cedar Lake Park in Olathe. Gates open at 7:30 a.m., and registration runs from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Participation is free but limited to the first 600 fishers.

The derby includes a free hot dog lunch and giveaways throughout the event. Participants will also receive a free t-shirt. It culminates with the trophy presentations for whoever catches the biggest fish in each age category from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Read more »

Thursday Nights Free at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Historic Site will be open late from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday nights in June and July. Visitors can tour the Heritage Center with its exhibits and orientation film, enjoy the grounds and animals, and visit the 1865 Mahaffie home free of charge. Read more »

As if being singled out by Money Magazine, Forbes and the New York Times wasn't enough, the entire country is being exposed to Olathe thanks to thirteen-year-old Kavya Shivashankar. Kavya became the fist Olathean ever and first Kansan since 1978 to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Read more »

Recreation Hours Extended

To make it easier for customers during the busy recreation season, Olathe Parks and Recreation office hours are being extended to help with registration. On Tuesday, May 19th, and Thursday, May 21st, the office will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Customers can always register online. Read more »

Olathe Partnering to Offer Discounted Prescriptions

The City of Olathe is partnering with the National League of Cities to offer all residents a prescription drug discount program. The program not only provides an average 20% discount on prescriptions for those without insurance, but also may be used for prescription drugs (smoking cessation, etc.) that may not be covered by health insurance. In addition, pet medications that are used to treat human conditions are covered. There are no restrictions on who may use the card or how many times it is used. Read more »
