The City of Olathe requires all Cross Connection systems to have an approved backflow prevention assembly installed to protect the City's water system from contamination. Additionally, the City requires annual testing of all backflow assemblies, as stated in the City of Olathe Municipal Code (Section 15.08.090) as well as Kansas State Statute 65-163a. Testing of the device(s) must be performed by a Certified Tester, and results must be submitted online to the City by the test due date.
Cross Connection control is any connection between the public water supply and a source of contamination or pollution.
List of potential commercial/residential hazards:
- Irrigation systems
- Coffee brewers
- Fire sprinkler systems
- Ice machines
- Mop sinks
- Shampoo sinks
Even if you do not plan to use your system this year, the backflow preventer must still be tested and the results submitted to the City.
If you would like to remove or cap off your system permanently, an Individual Trade Permit is required.
